Mile-High RETAC

Current News in Disaster Preparedness

KUSA - The Department of Homeland Security is out with a new survey on emergency preparedness.

They say, on average, just over half of the people surveyed have taken some steps to prepare for a wide range of emergencies from terrorism to natural disaster. They hope more families will think about putting together a family emergency supply kit in the event of the unexpected.

A family emergency supply kit should have enough supplies to allow your family to survive for three days without power and without going to the store.

Items to include:

  • Water
  • Non-perishable food
  • A battery operated radio with extra batteries
  • A flashlight
  • Prescription medication
  • Baby food and diapers
  • Pet supplies
